Things To Do; Shopping!

We may not be the city but there is plenty of shopping to be done on the Island!

Mall Shopping;

Smith Haven Mall is less than a 15 minute drive from the suggested hotel.  With hundreds of stores, including Macy's, Victoria's Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch and restaurants like California Pizza Kitchen and Cheesecake Factory, you can easily make this a full day trip, as the mall is open from 10:00 am to 9:30 pm.

Outlet Shopping;

Tanger Riverhead  has over  165 brand name manufacturer and designer outlet stores including Polo Ralph Lauren, H&M, Nike, Off 5th, Williams Sonoma, Banana Republic, Gap, Barneys New York, Restoration Hardware, Coach and many more.Be sure to visit Shopper Services when you arrive to pick up a coupon book for additional savings. There is also a food court, Starbucks and a trolley that will shuttle you around the property.  Though a further trip than the mall, the savings are unbeatable.  You can take the LIRR from Ronkonkoma (near most of the hotels) to Riverhead and it would only be a quick cab ride!

Downtown:

Just a few minutes south of the hotels is our local village.  Sayville is full of clothing boutiques, gift and home furnishing shops, specialty stores, jewelry emporiums, salons and restaurants.  Saturday mornings a local Farmers market set ups on the village green.  It is a great place to spend a few hours wandering around!

Things To Do; Beaches

We have some beautiful weather on the island in October, so you may just want to hit the beach! If not for a tan and to swim, then certainly to walk the shore and take in the sights.

Did you know that  National Geographic has ranked some on Long Island's beaches in their top ten lists the last few years? The Hamptons out ranked beaches in Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, and Australia! Cooper's Beach is Southampton is the most well known and has even been voted the best beach in the country! It has a lifeguard, bathrooms, showers and a restaurant hosts lobster bakes on Fridays. Visitors can even rent umbrellas and chairs for a small fee.

If you are feeling really adventurous you could head all the way out to the last tip of the island, "The End" as we natives call it, or Montauk as you are probably more familiar with.  The train can take you straight out there, there are a ton of beaches to explore, or even walk the cliffs and check out the lighthouse!

More locally our own little are hosts some beautiful little spots, complete with play grounds, benches and picnic tables.  Great spots can be found in Sayville as well as Corey Beach in Blue Point and Bayport Beach as well.

Transportation

Transportation will be provided from the suggested hotel to the wedding and back - but with so much to do and see, you are going to need to be able to get around!

The suggested Hotel can provide shuttle service from JFK airport for a fee. Just call the front desk of the hotel to arrange or mention it at time of booking.

Rail

The LIRR  runs the the length of the island from New York's Penn station to as far east as Montauk.  Our local station is Sayville on the Montauk line, though the Ronkonkoma station on the Ronkonkoma line is closest to the suggested hotel and MacArthur Airport.

The Air Train will take you directly from JFK airport to the Jamaica train station.  Connections can be made at Jamaica to all of the easterly train stations, such as the two listed above, as well as in to the city.

Taxi

Taxi cabs from private taxi companies wait at most LIRR stations.  Our local company is Colonial, their dispatch office is located feet from the Sayville train station and their information will also be left in each of our guest's hotel rooms.

Ferry

If you are interested in venturing to any of the smaller islands, ferry is the (only) way to go! Fire Island can be reached Bay ShoreSayville, and Patchogue - all of which have corresponding train stations.  Shelter Island ferry can be reached via the Sag Harbor train stop.

If you are looking to travel on to Connecticut, you can travel via the Port Jefferson Ferry, lying 20 minutes north of us on the island and accessible via the Port Jeff train stop.  This ferry will drop you in Bridgeport Connecticut.

Car

If you are looking to rent a vehicle during your stay my suggestion would be Enterprise; this link will bring you to the rental location closest to the suggested hotel, but there are several locations through out the island as well as at JFK airport.
